Sabalenka makes Grand Slam history, breaks Djokovic’s tiebreak record – Tennis Now

Aryna Sabalenka has experienced failure. The heart-wrenching losses, the hads, the shoulds, and the could-haves. All of which makes the world No. 1 the key performer she currently is.
No one in tennis is perfect under pressure, the game takes two to tango – sometimes you’re good but not as good as the genius at the net.
In Sabalenka’s case, we can safely say that she excelled in one area.
Sabalenka defeated Victoria Mboko 6-1 7-6(1) on Day 8, setting a new record of winning 20 consecutive Grand Slam tie-breaks. It’s an incredible streak that has lasted for more than two and a half years – she last lost a break chance at the 2023 French Open.
She broke the previous record held by Novak Djokovic, who won 19 consecutive tiebreaks from Wimbledon in 2005 to 2007. The Serbian icon also recently won 15 consecutive tiebreaks in a Grand Slam season before being stopped by Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon in 2023.
Sabalenka’s streak began during a loss to Karolina Muchova in the 2023 French Open semifinals, followed by a third-set tiebreaker win over Madison Keys at the 2024 U.S. Open (she won both matches there) and ended with Amanda Anisimova in last year’s U.S. Open final. One of them was her epic victory over Iga Swiatek in the French Open semifinals last year. That match ended Poland’s 26-game winning streak against France.
Five of them played against top ten players.
Where to stop, no one knows…
