Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer’s first Australian Open titles have an amazing history. The trio’s first wins in the first major of the season came at eerily similar times.

Alcaraz, Nadal and Federer, who each won his first title at age 22 in his fifth appearance at the Australian Open, had never reached the finals of the event before. Each of their wins occurred on February 1st.

Alcaraz joined the club on Sunday when he defeated 10-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic in the final. With a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 victory, the Spaniard also completed a career Grand Slam.

Nadal appeared at Rod Laver Arena on Sunday to lift his first Melbourne trophy of 2009. In an unforgettable five-set semifinal match against Fernando Verdasco, the left-hander claimed glory by defeating Federer 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-2. The following year, he completed his career grand slam at the U.S. Open.

In 2004, Federer won his first title at the Australian Open. The Swiss defeated three members of the ATP No. 1 Club on his way to the title: Lleyton Hewitt, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Marat Safin. Federer defeated Safin 7-6(3), 6-4, 6-2 in the final and won the career Grand Slam at the French Open in 2009.

Alcaraz, 22, has won seven Grand Slam titles, while Nadal has won 22 and Federer has won 20.

Sinner also won his first Australian Open title at the age of 22 on January 28 in his fifth Australian Open appearance. The Italian triumphed in 2024, fighting back from two sets down to beat Daniil Medvedev 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in the final. The Italian will try to complete his career Grand Slam at Roland Garros later this year.
