Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7’s monitor can withstand 500,000 times

Samsung says its display for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can fold more than twice as much, twice as the model’s previous iterations showed. After the durability tests by Veritas, the foldable OLED panel “stays full-featured” and folded it 500,000 times in 13 days. This means that if the user folds the phone about 100 times a day, the display can last for more than 10 years. “Durability is no longer a limiting factor in the lifespan of foldable smartphones,” Samsung said in the announcement.

The company has drawn clues from bulletproof glass to create a shock-proof design for new foldable OLED panels. It increases the thickness of the outermost glass of the display by 50% and applies a high elastic adhesive to each layer of the panel to better absorb external influences. The new display can also spread electric shocks more evenly on its surface, while Samsung uses titanium plates as support for the entire structure to make it stronger than before. Additionally, by using more advanced materials and redesigning the panel layers, the company was able to implement thinner profiles to make the device look and feel like any regular phone now.

Previous versions of the Galaxy Z Fold, from the first to sixth, get only 200,000 times the rating. When CNET tested the first Z-fold by using a machine that opened and folded for hours, it lasted only 119,380 times, although it was said to be able to withstand 200,000. If the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can get anywhere 500,000 times the process it can handle, most users don’t have to worry about their screen capturing two before changing their phones.
