Hubert Hurkacz and Iga Swiatek will look to prove their quality as they reach the Fed Cup semi-finals in Sydney on Saturday.

In last year’s final, Taylor Fritz’s late shot in the deciding-set tiebreaker sealed the title for the United States after Coco Gauff beat Swiatek to ruin Poland’s chances of competing for the trophy. If Hulkac and Swiatek can get revenge this time, they will ensure new names are engraved on Sunday’s trophy.

In the first match of the day, three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka aims to write another memorable chapter in Switzerland’s early season farewell against Belgium. Belinda Bencic remains unbeaten in singles and mixed doubles against Elise Mertens before Wawrinka tackles Zizou Bergers.

United States vs Poland [5:30 p.m.]The tie will open with a showdown between two former WTA Finals champions and rivals, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff, with Swiatek looking to build on her perfect 3-0 record at this year’s Fed Cup.

Swiatek was outstanding for Poland, notching a commanding singles victory and helping her team reach its fourth consecutive semifinal. Although Gauff lost in the group stage to Jessica Busas-Manero, she has been a central figure in the defending American champions.

Fritz and Hurkacz will then recommence their rivalry in a narrative-rich match. Fritz leads the Lexus ATP head-to-head 4-2, while Hulkac has been a constant threat this week as he recovers from knee surgery, beating world No. 3 Alexander Zverev in straight sets to produce one of the tournament’s biggest upsets.

Both teams are loaded with firepower and history, and the game has a strong theme of revenge: Swiatek and Hurkacs aim to overturn past disappointments against their American foes who lifted the trophy in Sydney last season.

Switzerland vs Belgium [10 a.m.]Bencic has been the driving force behind the Swiss team, going unbeaten in three singles matches and partnering Jakub Paul with three mixed doubles wins, two of which came in decisive rubber matches. The 28-year-old will take on Elise Mertens, the pair’s only previous meeting, but Bencic is well aware that a draw in this match could once again hinge on the mixed doubles.

“He’s a great doubles player now,” Bencic said of Paul. “I know how good he can play. It’s even more impressive on the court. He really helps me out a lot. Stan, of course, coaches us great. We have a lot of energy on the court.”

Wawrinka played more than seven-and-a-half hours in Perth (one win, two losses) and opted for another rest day after arriving in Sydney on Friday. The match has been moved up 30 minutes due to forecasts of extremely hot weather and will start at 10am, with the 40-year-old needing to fully recover for the clash with Bergers.

“It’s going to be very hot and humid,” Wawrinka told ATPTour.com in Sydney. “The positive thing is that there’s a roof, so the sun won’t hit us directly. We expect some very tough conditions, but we’re ready for it. The same goes for us and Belgium, I think it’s going to be a big fight.”

Burges was full of confidence after defeating No. 5 Felix Auger-Aliassime and No. 18 Jakub Mencic in straight sets in the semifinals, beating top-20 opponents in back-to-back matches for the first time in his career.
