Foreign portfolio investors invested Rs 14,167 crore in stocks in May

Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIS) has invested Rs 1,416 crore on the basis of a globally positive global signal and a strong domestic economy to date.

In April, foreign investment activity surged in the Indian stock market, indicating a significant shift in the outflow observed in early 2025. In May, the momentum also continued.

This favorable driving force is the net investment of Rs 422.3 crore in April. Last month, after a continuous net outflow of Rs 39773 crore in March, there were inflows of foreign investment, Rs 34,574 crore in February and Rs 780,277 crore in January.

“FPI inflows in the Indian stock market remain positive due to the weakness of the dollar, slowing down the pace of the U.S. and Chinese economies, as well as domestic reasons such as a strong economy, low inflation and interest rates,” said VK VK Jayakumar, chief investment strategist at Geojit Financial Services.

He also stressed that debt inflows may remain weak in the coming period.

FPI outflows fell by Rs 98,184 crore in 2025 after Rs 141.67 crore in May.

Vijaykumar further stated: “Recently, the logo of FPI investment has been that they have been constantly buying. They purchased shares worth Rs 485,33 crore on consecutive exchanges for 16 trading days to 16 trading days on May 8. However, due to the tension in India-Pakistan, they bought shares for Rs 3,798 crore on May 9.”

According to other experts, the investment figures that crossed Rs 140,000 crore in the second week of May show confidence among foreign investors in the Indian stock market and that figure may increase further in the upcoming time.
