Senator Jeff Merkley, Democrat of Oregon, says he is running for re-election

PORTLAND, Oregon – U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, Democrat in Oregon, said Thursday that he will run for reelection next year, seeking a fourth term in Congress.
The 68-year-old condemned the Trump administration in a statement and described the efforts to oppose the growing threat to democracy as “a struggle for our lives, and I am not retreating.”
“It’s a dark and dangerous time for our democracy, and the only way to go is to be together,” he said.
Merkley is the top Democrat on the strong Senate Budget Committee. He was recently re-elected in the Senate in 2020, with a turnout of nearly 57%.
Merkley has served in Congress since 2009. Prior to that, he served in the Oregon House of Representatives for about a decade.
Another Democratic Senator in Oregon, Ron Wyden, will not be re-elected until 2028.
