Sinner stops Cobolli, sets up rematch with Bublik in Vienna – Tennis Now

In June last year, Bublik defeated Sinner 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 on the Harley grass to win the Harley Championship. Carlos Alcaraz and Bublik are the only guys to beat Sinner in finishes this season. Following Sinner’s retirement, Talon Grikspoor leads the Italian team in Shanghai this month. Sinner and Bublik have a 5-2 record, including a 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 sweep at the U.S. Open last month.

Sinner faced Coboley for the first time today and got off to a strong start.

With a second consecutive break of serve, Sinner extended the lead to 4-1 after 28 minutes of play.

On the fourth set point, Sinner sealed the first set in 45 minutes with a scattered forehand. Sinner won 17 of her 25 points on serve and faced no break points in the first set.

Coboli went head-to-head with the world No. 2 in the second set.

In the 11th game, Coboli held on to three break points, hit consecutive forehand winners, and then hit the third ACE ball to chase the score to 6-5.

Coboli opened the tie-break with an ace, and then Sinner hit consecutive forehands to get a mini break and lead 3-1.

Sinner led 5-3 when Coboly double-faulted, then ended a tight cross-court showdown with a 6-4 diagonal backhand winner.

On match point, Sinner sealed the victory with a body serve, winning in 1 hour and 47 minutes to improve his season record to 45-6.

Today is Italy Day in Vienna and five Italian men are taking part in the competition.

U.S. Open quarterfinalist De Minaur beat Austria’s Filip Misolic 6-4, 6-4. Berrettini has beaten De Minaur in three of their four previous meetings, including a 6-3, 7-6(7) victory in the round of 16 in Miami in March.

Corentin Mutai defeated Daniil Medvedev 7-6(3), 6-4 in a rematch of Sunday’s Almaty final, joining Carlos Alcaraz as the only men to score his first 20 wins this season on clay, grass, hard courts and indoor courts.

The French southpaw pulled out all the stops, bewildering Medvedev with small balls and winning a match with an underarm serve.

Medvedev, the 2022 Vienna champion, broke serve at 4-5 in the second set. Mutai then held Medvedev back with a maddening display of shooting.

First, Mutai’s forehand spin hit the top of the ball, eventually climbing over -30, and then the Frenchman used a forehand pass to gain three match points. The match ended with a mistake from Medvedev, with the lanky Russian clearly still bothered by a timeout warning from decider Fergus Murphy and refusing to shake the veteran referee’s hand after the game.

Moutei, ranked 36th in the world, will face fourth seed Lorenzo Musetti or Thomas Martin Echeverri in the quarterfinals.

2021 Vienna Champions Alexander Zverev top Matteo Arnardi He reached the quarterfinals in Vienna for the fifth time with a score of 6-4, 6-4.

It was Zverev’s 50th win of the season and his sixth 50-match win in a season, joining Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz and Alex De Minaur as the fourth man to reach 50 wins in 2025.

Second seed Zverev will compete with Talon Grikspoor for a spot in the semifinals. Zverev has an 8-2 record against No. 28 Grikspur.
