Sinners Not Far From Number One – Tennis Now

Jannik Sinner says first place is impossible, days later he’s four wins away from overtaking it Carlos Alcaraz And returned to No.1. The Italian’s 65-week reign at the top of the ATP rankings ended after the US Open, and if he wins in Paris, he will reach the top spot in the world for the second time.
Given that he enters today’s round of 16 with a 22-game indoor hard-court winning streak, and Carlos Alcaraz has already been eliminated, he is the favorite to do so.
Still, locking down the year-end No. 1 ranking remains a daunting challenge for Sinner. The 24-year-old, who won the Nitto ATP Finals last year undefeated, has 1,500 points to defend, while Alcaraz needs just 200 points to go 1-2 in Turin.
If Sinner wins in Paris, he will be 250 points ahead of Alcaraz, with the remaining races decided in Turin.
Alcaraz is ranked No. 1 in the world for the fifth time. He has held the top spot for eight consecutive weeks and a total of 44 weeks. He lost his first fight in Paris to Cameron Norrie.
Sinner (65) and Alcaraz (44) rank 12th and 14th respectively on the ATP all-time weekly list and first in total weeks.
