Baseball legend Ryne Sandberg Died at the age of 65.
Sandberg’s former team, the Chicago Cubs, announced their death through X on Monday, July 28.
Their statement read along with the athlete’s photos: “With great sorrow, we share that Ryan Sandberg passed away today.”
There is no cause of death.
Sandberg revealed in January 2024 that he is fighting Metastatic prostate cancer. He declared that he had no cancer seven months later. In December 2024, he shared that his cancer had recovered and spread.

Sandberg was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005, and most of his 16 seasons with the Major League were second baseman for the Cubs. He began his career with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1981 before being traded to Chicago the following year. In 1984, Sandberg was named the National League MVP; in 1990, he had 40 home runs, more than any other player of that year. Sandberg hit 282 home runs during his major league tenure, with an average hit of .285. He also stole 344 bases, drove 1,061 runs, and won 9 Golden Glove Awards.
In 1992, Sandberg signed an unprecedented $28.4 million contract and played for another four years at Wrigley Field. (He eventually retired in 1997.)
