Taylor Fritz narrowly escaped at the Tokyo Open Tennis Championships at the Kinoshita Group in Japan on Thursday, where he rallyed Gabriel Diallo 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3).
Fritz won the victory of Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev from the outstanding Laver Cup, who beat Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev and found himself stuck in a defense against the big server Big Server Diallo, who beat 16 winners (40-24). Fritz won the victory, and strengthened his bid to qualify for the Nitto ATP final for the second consecutive year. He ranked in Turin in PIF ATP live matches, and he won the championship game in last year’s season finale before falling into Jannik Sinner.
“The biggest thing for me today is energy, it’s hard to match Andre’s energy last week [Agassi] This team went crazy on the bench,β said Fritz of Captain Andre Agassiβs Laver Cup team world: βI really just have to find it and keep going. It was a very difficult game. β
According to Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Fritz now has a record of 46-17 in 2025, only behind world No. 1 Alcaraz (62), with the most wins of the season. The American, who won the Tokyo championship in 2022, faces a second round of clash with Portugal’s Nuno Borges.
It’s also a powerful day for other Americans. Sebastian Korda summoned past countryman Marcos Giron with a victory of 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4), while Jenson Brooksby’s frustrated sixth seed and last year’s finalist Ugo Humbert 7-6 (4), 6-3, 6-3.
Korda held a meeting with Japan qualifier Sho Shimabukuro in his first tour-level match of the season, shocking the fifth seed Tomas Machac in his first tour of the season, 7-6 (4), followed by Brooksby playing Luciano Darderi, who denied Home Home Hope Yoshihito Nishioka Nishioka 7-6 (9) (9), 6-3, 6-3 to to to to to to to nishioka.
Corda missed the swing of grass due to a pressure fracture in his right tibia and he ranked 67th in the PIF ATP field rankings. Brooksby has won 17 Tour victories this year and is expected to stay on track for the best 25th in his career in 2022, namely, he entered the career-high world No. 33.
