Team World Leads to Sunday at Laver Cup – Tennis Now

The team world is on the verge of a third Laver Cup victory after a brilliant Saturday swept away.
Alex de Minaur of Francisco Cerundolo provided victory at a day’s meeting, and Taylor Fritz shocked Carlos Alcaraz to put the world ahead 7-3.
De Minaur and Alex Michelsen put the icing on the cake with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Casper Ruud and Holger Rune in the Saturday nightcap, stretching the lead to 9-3.
It was the most successful day in global history, with players rallying on captain Andre Agassi, who has been an inspirational figure on the bench, throwing breasts at his players and bringing high octane drama.
“He brought some serious energy and we loved it,” De Minaur said of Agassi.
Eight-time Major Champion Agassi had a lot of smiles during her first year as captain.
“This is the easiest day of my life, and we have one more day and we have to run it all over the finish line,” he said.
Team World leads Sunday for the third time in eight years of Laver Cup history. They also did this in Vancouver in 2023 and won. Last year, they led Berlin Europe 8-4.
They need to win two of the two of the four games on Sunday to avoid the final overtime doubles match (all matches are worth three points on Sunday, meaning that European teams can win three of the four games by winning). If the team world does win, it could be Fritz’s incredible performance against No. 1 Alkaraz, which would make them top.
“It’s not like he did in the Lightning Court,” Agassi said of Fritz’s 6-3, 6-2 wins. “He has faith, he knows exactly what he wants to do…I’m proud of Fritzy and I want him to realize his abilities.”
