Cooperative Bank launches £10,000 bonus for charity and community clients

The Cooperative Bank has announced a new £10,000 bonus dedicated to its charity and community account clients as it celebrates its decade of rated as the UK’s best charity bank provider by commercial currency facts.

New and existing customers who hold at least £5,000 in a qualified account by July 31, 2025 will automatically enter the lottery, with one of the organizations winning a cash prize of £10,000. Clients who have worked with a cooperative bank for at least 10 years will receive additional income.

The draw is open to clients of charity and community accounts, formerly known as the Community DirectPlus account, which provides free daily banking for registered charities, cooperatives, community interest companies and credit unions.

James Wall, head of charity banking at Cooperative Bank, said: “As the original ethical bank, we are experts in charities, cooperatives and organizations in the social enterprise sector to transform their communities. It’s a wonderful moment to switch to Cooperative Bank and have the opportunity to win an incredible £10,000.”

The award-winning account offers a range of benefits including no-month fees, discounted merchant services, free GO get paid access, accounting software integration, and a 50% discount on subscription sustainability platform Zellar.

For smaller organizations that do not meet the award criteria, cooperative banks also operate customer endowments. Since its launch, the fund has donated more than £1.2 million in grants to more than 1,300 community organizations.

Coniston Cooperative Chairman Chas Sargeant praised the bank’s approach: “We are honored to be banking with the Cooperative Bank – they do understand us as an organization.” Fiona Ebbs, the association’s office manager, added: “There is a chance to win such a huge amount of money and there are more reasons to bring social and environmental organizations like us into one with them.”
