The new Hyundai Elexio offers more than reasonable prices

The new Hyundai Elexio offers a reasonable price that originally appeared on Autoblog that exceeded expectations.

Like all other automakers, Hyundai recognizes that China is an important market. The company claims the vehicle is a “new starting point” and recently revealed the Elexio SUV, which showed impressive features in early safety tests.

Hyundai admits that China is an “essential place” for global companies, and Elexio may help it compete with the country’s more mature local brands. The automaker targets 435 miles (about 320 miles with EPA) of CLTC driving range, and says the SUV offers fast charging, advanced technology, and more.

Early collapse tests showed that the new SUV provided above average safety, with Hyundai using its “God’s Hand” high-strength steel plate as a major factor in testing. It has 360 degrees of body reinforcement and floor beams for better structural stiffness. The cryogenic battery evaluation found that under low temperature conditions, the Elexio lost its smaller driving range and had no difficulty in operating under ultra-cooled conditions.

Elexio is smaller than the Tesla Model Y and will be available in two configurations, including single-motor and dual-sport options. The single-motor powertrain provides 214 horsepower and the dual setup has 312 hp. Both configurations will use LFP batteries from BYD battery subsidiary FindReam.

Hyundai also touted the crossover’s riding quality, saying it has “the highest suspension configuration among classmates.” It features advanced dampers and hydraulic bushings, and the automaker says it has redesigned the suspension system more than 300 times before placing the configuration.

Elexio is known as China’s Ioniq 5, so it’s very soon unlikely that we’ll see it on American streets. It was built in China through a Hyundai partnership with BAIC, with a reasonable starting price of less than $20,000. Hyundai plans to launch the vehicle in the third quarter of this year.
