Ciao Lucia designer Lucy Akin’s essentials

A holiday is spent in Positano’s shop, drinking the size and taking advantage of every sunset photo opportunity, and it is incomplete without a perfect wardrobe. When it comes to chic resort dressing, few brands are like Ciao Lucia. Founded and designed by California native Lucy Akin, Ciao Lucia specializes in retro-styled dresses and suits, wearing a fantastic palette that often includes subtle details such as fan-shaped hem and embroidered cutouts.

Since Akin focuses on using useless fabrics like lightweight knitted and silk, they won’t take up space you carry around, and don’t need a steamer, they’re also very easy to travel. This dress might be ideal for European escapes, but the beginning of Ciao Lucia – just like its celebrity stunts Hailey Bieber and Kaia Gerber

After working for Jenni Kayne and then a buyer of boutique restaurants in Los Angeles, Akin ventured with Shop Super Street, a boutique that mixes luxury designers and streetwear brands. “I started my store since 2014 and it was really hard and had to deal with the inventory constantly, and the inventory changed very quickly, the staff and the schedule,” Akin told Observer. Feeling burned, similar to her psychologist (“Because I’m in Los Angeles, of course I have a soul”), she came up with the idea of design. “He asked me why I didn’t design, and I was like, ‘I’m just a buyer, I’ll never consider myself a designer,'” Akin recalled. “He was a very professional psychologist and he said, ‘You’re doing something wrong, you need design. ‘ Huge expectations It turns out that it was just the inspiration needed to outline her first idea.

After spending months building and fine-tuning her first series, Akin flew herself, models and photographers to Acapulco with her Amex Points, to go with Fashion.

Eight years later, Akin still draws inspiration from her favorite movies Rosemary’s Kids,,,,, Pierrot le fou and bird To create the look, you can guide “the girl who travels and opens four Aperols by noon.” The Los Angeles-based designer has also expanded her resort pairing and worked with some of her favorite brands to complement her Ciao Lucia work. “We started working with K. Jacques with sandals two years ago, and we’ve been doing it because it’s fun,” Akin shares the handmade trigger, wrap and corner spade sandals made by the family business brand in Saint-Tropez.

For her latest adventure, Akin stayed in the United States and turned to Cristina Mantilla and Duda Teixeira, a Miami-based jewelry designer. It feels right; Akin has previously purchased Ciao Lucia Photoshoots from the brand. “It’s a very interesting jewelry collection, inspired by places to travel to the beach, souvenirs were found in unexpected places, and new materials that have never been used before,” Akin explained. The limited edition series, launched in June, includes three necklaces and anklets decorated with colorful resin creatures, consisting of materials such as 18k gold-plated recyclable brass and recyclable African glass.

With the summer trip on, Lucy Akin shares her current essentials with observers – from lunch orders she never skipped in Rome to a staple she will wear anywhere in the summer.
