GM Antonio takes the young gun at Asenso Ozamiz Open

It’s gold.
It’s a saying that ruled Joey Antonio in battleTh Asenso Ozamiz Chess is open on weekends.
The 63-year-old former Olympic stellar figure faced the emerging young guns and the best female chess player in the country today as he scored eight out of nine points in the 10 players field that implemented “big contest” type time control.
Just a few days after Mr. Antonio won four gold medals in the Class 50 gold medals of the ASEAN+Age Championships in Penang, Malaysia.
Despite the deep pressure, he won the effort with his final round victory Darwin Laylo.
Mr. Antonio’s only loss was at the hands of 20-year-old GM Daniel Quizon in the fifth round, but the latter suffered four wins to tie his efforts.
Christian Gian Karlo Arca, 16-year-old Master Fide, Davao del Norte from Panabo, is regarded as one of the country’s next general managers, defeating 19-year-old World Cupper, International Master Michael Concio, to claim No. 2 and P18,000 with 7 points.
Mr. Concio stumbled upon Mr. Quizon and Im Rolando Nolte for third place, with 6 points, but still ranked third, P12,000.
Mr Quizon settled in P9,000, while Mr Nolte P6,000. – Joey Villar
