Macron warns Israel of “unsustainable situation” in Gaza
French President Emmanuel Macron has called for a tougher route on Israel if it does not mitigate the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
“In the next few hours and days, if there is no response corresponding to the humanitarian demands, then of course, the collective status will have to be strengthened,” Macron said on a visit to Singapore on Friday.
He said it all depends on the decision of the Israeli government.
“It’s clear today that we can’t let the situation continue,” Macron said, adding that obstacles to humanitarian aid are making the situation unsustainable locally.
He said distributing water, food and medicine is a priority and that the injured are allowed to leave the area.
Israel stopped the Gaza Strip after resuming military operations on March 18 after a temporary ceasefire. The stated purpose is to put pressure on Hamas to release the remaining hostages occupied on October 7, 2023.
This lockdown has eased over the past week, as desperate residents try to get food, and thus the chaos in the Gaza Strip.
Macron once again stressed the need for a political solution to the conflict, calling for the release of all hostages and Hamas’ non-military to promote the establishment of a Palestinian state. He said a security architecture must be created for the entire region.
