Former world number six Hubert Hurkacz and six-time Grand Slam champion and 2025 Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek will join forces for the 2026 Fed Cup, making Poland the first team to commit to next year’s event.
From January 2 to 11, Poland and 17 other countries (up to three men and up to three women) will compete side by side in Perth and Sydney for the fourth consecutive year.
In this innovative mixed team tennis event, players will compete for the coveted trophy, at least A$17 million in prize money and 500 PIF ATP Ranking and WTA Ranking points.
Poland, a two-time finalist, will compete in the Confederations Cup for the fourth time.
World number two Swiatek, who won her latest Grand Slam title at Wimbledon and her 25th career singles title in Seoul last month, will once again lead the team.
“The Fed Cup is always amazing. It’s always an amazing experience and it’s always an honor to represent your country and especially playing alongside such great players,” said Swiatek, who holds a 14-2 win-loss singles record at the event.
“I love being a part of the team and have great memories of participating in this event. This tournament is different. It brings a lot more excitement than the normal tournaments we compete in this year.”
Swiatek is looking forward to meeting her Polish fans in Australia.
“They’re the best because they’re almost everywhere,” Swiatek said. “In any country we go to there are a lot of Poles and in Australia there is a big Polish community. I think they are really loyal and really believe in us and that’s the most important thing.”
Hulkac also enjoyed the team atmosphere of the Confederations Cup and Australia tour.
“I really enjoyed the team atmosphere and the opportunity to represent our country,” Hulkac said. “I really love coming to Australia and of course the Australian people. I really love the atmosphere there.”
In the 2025 final, the Polish team lost 0-2 to Coco Goff and Taylor Fritz of the American team.
In 2024, Poland secured championship points in a decisive mixed doubles match, which Germany won 2-1.
Perth will host the first day of the Federation Cup at the RAC Arena on January 2, with Sydney’s group stages beginning on January 3 at the Ken Rosewall Arena.
The group winners from each city will advance to the quarter-finals, with one quarter-final spot from each city going to that city’s best runner-up.
The quarter-finals will be held in Perth on January 7. Sydney will take place on January 8-9. The semi-finals and finals will be held in Sydney on January 10-11.
“We are delighted that six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek and Poland’s Hubi Hurkacs have made early commitments to compete in this summer’s Fed Cup,” said Fed Cup tournament director Stephen Farrow.
“The Fed Cup holds a unique place in global tennis, with the world’s best men and women representing their countries at the highest level. We are extremely proud to host our fourth edition.
“Players love playing for their country and being able to give countries the opportunity to bring their passion and pride together in a mixed team environment creates an energy they all want to be a part of. We look forward to connecting with our sports fans and the tennis community again this summer.”
The Minister for Tourism of Western Australia, the Hon. Reece Whitby MLA said: “The Federation Cup will be an exciting start to 2026, marking the fourth summer in a row that Perth will host this world-class event and truly proving Western Australia’s status as a premier destination for major sporting events.”
“This fantastic event will showcase some of the best tennis players in the world, attract thousands of spectators and add millions of dollars to Western Australia as part of our strategy to diversify the economy over the holiday season.”
NSW Sports Minister and Employment and Tourism Minister Steve Kamper added: “The Polish team, led by reigning Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek, has committed to play in 2026. I’m very excited about the 2018 Fed Cup. This event is one of the most anticipated events on the NSW summer sporting calendar and the passion shown by the world’s best tennis players for the national competition creates an incredible atmosphere for fans. As the host of the world’s premier tennis competition, we look forward to welcoming tennis fans from all over the world to enjoy another exciting event experience in the Harbor City.”
