Three-term Democrats ousted by MAGA opponents in 2024 make a comeback for the U.S. Senate

Three-term Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, Ohio, will launch a new bid next year to return to his position, a report said.
Brown’s plan to run for the Senate was shared by three Ohio labor leaders with local media, who said Brown confides them directly. Other Democrats in Ohio also told the media that they had heard about Brown’s plans from his inner circle, a report that Brown has been interviewing the campaign manager for his upcoming bid.
Brown was ousted in 2024 by Maga Challenger and current freshman Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, who won with 50.2% of the vote, while Brown’s 46.4%.

Despite the failure, Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer reportedly lobbied Brown for several months.
If elected as a Democratic candidate, Brown’s Republican rival could be Sen. Jon Husted, R-Ohio, Ohio, who left the White House after he was appointed to JD Vance. A special election in 2026 will determine who will last until 2029 for the rest of Vance’s term.
“If Brown plays Schumer’s picky candidate, he will start the game in the biggest loophole in his political career,” said Tyson Shepard, a spokesman for the Husted campaign.
“He has never had a candidate like Jon Husted. Brown’s slogan would sound empty as his league walked away, tired of radical policies he was forced to support to appease his coastal bosses in California and New York.”

Ohio, often seen as a key battlefield state, has been moving towards Republicans. In 2024, President Donald Trump won the state with more than 10 percentage points.

Since Brown left the Senate, he has established the dignity of the Institute of Work, which is “committed to making the people working in this country, and to create an economy and society that will make Americans’ work valued.”
