Honda re-releases real parts for classic NSX and other sports models

The automaker confirmed on Tuesday that Honda Motor will begin making and delivering real replacement parts for its iconic first-generation NSX sports car, marking a major move by enthusiasts and restorators of one of Japan’s most legendary performance cars.

The part plan is scheduled to be launched in 2026 and will support the owners of the original NSX, which debuted in 1990, is a mid-sized aluminum, system-based supercar designed to challenge Honda’s Hallmark reliability to challenge the performance of the Ferrari-Level. The move is likely to be welcomed by collectors and restorators, many of whom have worked hard to provide factory-standard components for aging vehicles.

Honda cited advances in manufacturing, including remanufacturing and 3D printing, as a key enabler of the new plan. The company notes that these technologies “expand the range of possibilities for production of discontinued components to meet modern quality standards.”

The upcoming parts will be designated as “real compatible parts,” meaning they meet official Honda standards, although made using a newer method.

While details on specific parts and ordering processes are expected later this fall, Honda confirmed the program will be extended beyond the NSX. The company teased support for other “sports type models”, which sparked speculation that the S2000, Civic Type R, and even older Integras and Preludes might receive similar treatments.

The move reflects the steps taken by other Japanese automakers. Toyota’s GR Heritage Parts program and Nissan’s Nismo Heritage Initiative have both been launched in recent years, aiming to keep aging enthusiast cars in increasing demand for collectors and a wider shift toward electric vehicles.

Honda is reportedly working on the next generation of all-electric NSX. If that car debuts, the brand’s recommitment to the legacy model will be a timely bridge between its past and future performance vehicles.
