Yannick Noah, captain of the European Captain on this year’s Laver Cup, has gained the ideal platform to reflect on his leading player Carlos Alcaraz’s recent dominance.
As the top third of the PIF ATP rankings and the 1983 Roland Garros championship, Noah knew that weight competition brought competition in shaping tennis history. After a time of competition full of iconic conflict, it’s easy for the Frenchman to comment on how the sport continues to reinvent itself with a new generation, such as the compelling Alcaraz-Jannik Sinner competition, which has reached new heights this year.
“Three, four years ago, we all thought as tennis fans, after Roger, Rafa and Djoko, after their time, [there is] It will become a long hole: “What will happen?”. The next thing you know is that these champions are coming. ”
“I’m not really a great technician, but I really believe in the energy they bring because they’re so fun and different roles there and are so popular for tennis fans. Of course, they’re playing great tennis, we all know. But it’s also a personality that people love.”
Noah is known for his thrills and talent on the court, and his character is always at the heart of tennis. He has often flourished in the competition throughout his own career: his Lexus ATP Head2head series against Ivan Lendl, who was behind 7-11, a clear battle that helped shape his place in the sport.
That’s why when Noah talks about the players of Alkaraz, Sina and Alexander Zverev, he emphasizes not only their tennis but their personality.
“Seeing the differences in personality, even in [Laver Cup] Team…I’m really grateful for the fact that I can meet completely different people. ”
“Now, you see a lot of Carlos with Jannik and Sascha and most of the people here, but the interesting thing is that they are so different. So you go to the show. You don’t know what show you’re going to see.
“The Show” has never been more evident than this year’s final in Roland Garros, who overcame Sinner in a breathtaking five-set battle where he saved three title points. The 22-year-old Spaniard himself vividly remembered that day.
“I remember, obviously, how I felt in that game. I kept doing well until the game [points] I think it’s about the details. That’s the core,” Alkaraz said. “You know? I can say that I always believed that I could come back and win the game. From my point of view, I think this is the most important thing. ”

Alcaraz, who has been the world number one game for the first time since September 2023, will be eager to bring the same resilience this weekend at the Laver Cup, where he will lead the second straight European title under Noah.
They will face fierce competition from Team World, which has top 10 stars Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur, as well as the rising #NextGenatp Brazilian Joao Fonseca.
