Trump and Musk: Originally a powerful alliance between U.S. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, it has become a full-blown public quarrel that unfolds on the social media platform they own. Once allies, the U.S. president and billionaire tech tycoons now trade in policy differences and personal stings insults, accusations and threats.
It all started with Musk slamming Trump’s flagship spending bill, calling it “annoyingly abominable” and urging Americans to call on their representatives to object. Musk claimed the bill was packed with wasted “pork” spending and said it would irresponsibly increase Treasury debt.
Trump, who had initially remained silent, responded at a press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. “I’m very disappointed with Musk,” he said, suggesting that Musk only starts criticizing the bill after leaving the government’s efficiency.
Trump added: “Elon knows the internal functioning of the bill better than almost everyone sitting here. Suddenly, he had a problem.”
But Musk pushed back sharply. “This bill never even showed me once, in death at night so fast that almost no one in Congress could read it!”
EV strategy flash point
Trump claims Musk is upset because the bill removes subsidies and authorizations for electric vehicles, which could hit Tesla. “He only finds out that I’ll cut the EV mission,” Trump said.
Musk denied that his concerns were selfish. He wrote: “Even if there is no touch oil and gas subsidy (very unfair!), EV/solar incentives are retained in the bill, but disgusting pork hills are abandoned in that bill.”
Musk drags Epstein into the line
In the stunning escalation, Musk went further and accused Trump of having ties to Jeffrey Epstein, claiming that the government kept relevant archives. “It’s time to put down the real big bomb: @realdonaldtrump in the Epstein file. That’s the real reason they haven’t made it public.” “Have a great day, DJT!”
He later added: “Block this post as the future. The facts will come.”

A broken alliance
At one point, Musk supported Trump’s presidential bid and invested millions of dollars in campaign support. Now, Musk made it clear that he regretted the relationship.
“Without me, Trump will lose the election, Dems will control the House, and Republicans will be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk said.
However, Trump eliminated Musk’s influence. “I’m very disappointed because Elon knows the inner workings of this bill better than almost anyone sitting here, better than you guys.”
Musk fought back again, saying that Trump’s version of the incident was “wrong”.
The power struggle turns to the individual
Trump has suggested that the administration will sign contracts with Musk companies such as SpaceX and Starlink. “The easiest way to save money in our budget is to terminate Elon’s government subsidies and contracts,” he wrote.

Musk opposed the reaction. When users pointed out that this could affect the ISS, Musk dared Trump to say: “Come on, spend my day.”
He also issued a covert warning to lawmakers. “Trump has 3.5 years left for president, but I will stay for more than 40 years,” Musk said.
