Valuable diamond brooch found in ordinary jewellery

When the box was brought in for regular valuation, an expensive diamond brooch was found hidden in a harmless jewelry box.
Most items are worth no more than $270.
According to news agency SWNS, brooch proved to be a treasure of decorative artworks—later sold at auction for about $3,100.

Lisa Spence, head of jewelry at Richard Wintelton Auction House in Lichfield, Staffordshire, England, found valuable items as she screened large collections.
As SWN reported, Spence said: “Of course, we always check everything.”

She added: “It’s especially important to be careful and focused, and read the larger jewelry collection carefully because you never know there might be lurking there.”
SWNS says Spence barely started checking Trove when something attracted trained eyes.

She quickly glanced through her magnifying glass and realized it was more than just another trinket hidden in her outfit.
“You never know there might be lurking there.”
“It’s obvious that we’re working on a gorgeous rectangular diamond brooch with the oval diamond about 1.20ct,” she said.

She added: “This bright diamond is surrounded by about 1.80 ct of old diamonds and single-cut diamonds.”

Not only is the diamond an exception, but the pins and safety buckle of the brooch are still intact and in good condition, making the discovery even more valuable, SWN said.

When the brooch ended up under the hammer at the Lichfield Auction Center, it earned over $3,100, and the sale was more than a lucky discovery.

Auctioneer revealed that successful bids resulted in a record quarter for each SWN.
