Trump’s political shamelessness may be his greatest strength to magic voters

Every politician acts with a certain degree of shamelessness. Actually in the job description.

Last year, in my two interviews with President Trump, he tried to explain why he had completely opposed Tiktok. After all, he spent his first term trying to ban Chinese-owned companies on the national security field, but was blocked by the court. Now, suddenly, he did 180 times, trying to save the app despite a congressional ban.

Trump told me he changed his mind because banning Tiktok would help Facebook, which he thought was a bigger threat.

I didn’t buy it. He concluded that Tiktok was very popular, especially among young people, and wanted to position himself as the Savior. Of course, this is before Mark Zuckerberg began proposing to Trump, for example by donating a million dollars to his inauguration.

Trump is probably the biggest shameless gene of all, and that’s part of the reason he succeeds.

He didn’t hang on what he said the day before or an hour ago. He can go from sympathy for Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis to saying he feels sad about Biden. He could go from blaming the Ukrainian war deadlock on Volodomyr Zelenskyy to ultimately condemning Vladimir Putin to calling it Biden’s war.
