Large earthquakes prompted warnings and evacuation across the Pacific Ocean. In the remote Russian region, several people were injured, while most of Japan’s coastal areas were evacuated.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake had a depth of 19.3 kilometers (12 miles), centered on 165,000 cities of 165,000, and centered on 119 kilometers (74 miles) northeastern. It modified the magnitude of the early 8.0 and reported 6.9 strong aftershocks.
