Union Minister Piyush Goyal discusses new opportunities with top French business leaders

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a series of senior meetings in Paris with France’s top CEO to explore new opportunities for India’s growth in key areas such as renewable energy, automobile manufacturing, electric vehicles (EVs) and consumer products.

As part of his involvement, Goyal met Bernard Fontana, Chairman and CEO of EDF Energy, discussing India’s growing role in the global clean energy transition.

He also met Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, to highlight India’s potential in the automotive manufacturing industry and the electric vehicle ecosystem.

At a meeting with Nicolas Hieronimus, CEO of L’Oreal Groupe, the minister discussed the expansion of the cosmetics giant’s manufacturing sector that prescribes the “Made in the World of India” plan.

Goyal also met with Totalenergies Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanne on Sunday to explore the company’s investment plans in India and deepen cooperation in the renewable energy sector.

The minister began his three-day official visit to France and Italy from 1 to 5 June 2025.

“As part of this visit, the minister will hold a series of high-level bilateral meetings with major international partners. These meetings include Mr. Jonathan Reynolds, Secretary of Commerce and Trade; Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Gan Kim Yong and Gan Kim Yong and Commerce Minister Saud Arabia Arlive and Commishia Majid Bin-ab in the statement.

Recently, the minister thanked France for its firm support and solidarity following the April 22 terrorist attack on Pahargam, highlighting the shared commitment between the two countries in maintaining zero tolerance for terrorism.

Goyal also expressed optimism that India could finalize its Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the EU (EU) by the end of the year, citing small differences between the two economic groups.
