United Airlines announces new check-in rules starting June 3

It's almost June and the summer travel season is officially here. During Memorial Day weekend, the AAA predicts that 3.61 million passengers will be on planes in the U.S., a 2% increase over last year when 3.55 million Americans travelled on their annual holidays. This year’s Memorial Day trend also points to airlines’ pre-pandemic levels reaching 12%, although the record of air travel on Memorial Day weekends can still be traced back to 3.64 million passengers in 2005.

According to the AAA, most flights take place on Memorial Day weekend to big cities such as Chicago, New York, Orlando, Denver and Seattle.

To save some dough, the AAA recommends booking flights that take off on Tuesday or return on Wednesday, as weekend flights tend to be more expensive.

Passengers using United Airlines will now make changes starting June 3 as the airline announced it will require all domestic passengers to check their luggage at least 45 minutes before departure, starting at 30 minutes. So for domestic passengers flying on June 3 on June 3, that 45-minute tolerance will be the cutoff, and those who don't meet will be left behind.

According to United Airlines, check-in time for domestic passengers with and without registration bags is limited to 45 minutes, while international travelers are 60 minutes. International check-in hours remain the same.

The airline said it will increase efficiency and simplify its processes as domestic flights change. The extra time will help their agents help those who have cuts with luggage, seating and arrangements. Starting from June 3, the airline will begin enforcing this rule without exception.

Therefore, the last minute check time is ending. This is just another reason to arrive at the airport as early as possible when traveling.
