Weather update for Himaal Pradesh: IMD predicts rainfall, hail for the next three days

Himaal Pradesh Weather Update: In the past 24 hours, various parts of Himaal Pradesh have experienced rain, thunderstorms, lightning and hail. This extreme weather round is a situation that affects nearly all areas under unstable conditions for nearly three consecutive days, including rainfall, hail and snowfall. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that this wet method will continue for the next three days.
IMD has issued weather alerts from rain, hail, thunderstorms and lightning in most parts of Himaal Pradesh, with Lahaul Spiti being the only exception.
“In the past 24 hours, most parts of Himaal Pradesh have been recorded from rain to moderate rainfall. Hail has also been reported in several areas,” said Sandeep Kumar Sharma, a senior scientist at the Shimla Meteorological Centre, while speaking with ANI.
He added that Bilaspur achieved the highest rainfall with 74mm, followed by Kandaghat, which had 67mm of rainfall in the Solan District. Shimla and Kasauli reportedly reported hail and recorded strong winds at multiple sites.
Looking ahead, IMD's forecasts suggest that from May 5 to May 8, rainfall is likely in the plains and central mountainous areas, while higher rivers may have witnessed snowfall. These weather activities are expected to continue over the next 4 to 5 days.
In addition, nighttime thunderstorms and strong winds may be between May 5 and May 9, especially in the Chamba, Kangra, Una, Bilaspur and Hamirpur regions. Isolated hail in Shimla, Kuru, Mandi, Solan, Simore and Kanggra are expected. In view of this, an alert from May 5 to 6 has been issued.
After May 9, weather activity is expected to decrease. However, light rain may still occur in several places in the central mountainous areas on May 10 and 11.
In terms of temperature, UNA has the highest temperature at 35.2 degrees Celsius, while Lahaul-Spiti's Keylong reports the lowest temperature at 4.2 degrees Celsius. Overall, the temperature in Himaal Pradesh is 2 to 3 degrees Celsius lower than normal.
In Shimla, the daytime temperature is about 22 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees below normal levels. In Solan, the highest temperature is 30 degrees Celsius, 10 degrees below normal, while Mandi recorded 27.8 degrees Celsius, 5 degrees below the average.
Weather conditions are expected to be active again starting tonight, with increased cloud coverage and expected continued temperatures to remain below average.
According to IMD data, rainfall so far has been 22% higher than normal in May than in the state. However, some areas, including Kullu and Lahaul Spiti, had lower than average rainfall, while six areas had higher than normal rainfall and the rest were close to average.
IMD maintained hail alerts in areas including Shimla, Kanggra and Mandy on May 5 and 6. Thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the state (excluding Lahaul Spiti) with intermittent clear weather over the next five days. However, rainfall will continue in many areas and gusts of wind may occur in some areas.
