Trump’s universal 50% copper tariff will come into effect on August 1. What is the impact? – National

The White House said U.S. President Donald Trump signed a declaration on Wednesday ordering tariffs on certain copper imports at 50%, citing national security.
According to a statement released by the White House, the announcement imposed a 50% tariff on semi-produced copper products and copper-intensive derivatives.

The tariffs will exclude copper scrapers and copper ore materials such as copper ore, concentrates, matte, cathode and anode, the statement said.
The measure follows a 232 investigation ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump in February.
In addition to tariffs, the order also calls for measures to support the domestic copper industry, including the need for 25% of high-quality waste sold in the country in the United States.
