Apple announced a new addition to its smartphone lineup in the fall, and the iPhone 17 is the upcoming series. We learned a lot about the software expectations during the company’s WWDC presentation, but there were also many leaks and rumors about hardware before the official introduction of the phone. This is what we know and what to expect from Cupertino this fall.
When will the iPhone 17 series be announced?
Most years, flagship smartphones were launched in September. It is too early to have a specific date. For several years, Apple has only provided a week or two in delivery between sending invitations and hosting events. But the past few years have shown that sometime in September it should be the first of 17 models. However, this smartphone family may be the last one to follow this trend. There are hints that the launch of the iPhone 18 series in 2026 will be announced in the fall and the Standard Model announcement will be released in the spring of the following year.
What will the new iPhone 17 lineup include?
Design leaks suggest that Apple is building an ultra-thin smartphone that might be named the iPhone 17 Air to match Apple’s ultra-light laptop name. BloombergIt was reported in January that the iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with a basic A19 chip and only has one camera lens. It can also use Apple’s new internal modem, which was introduced on the iPhone 16E in February. More details about this development may leak before September, but that’s what we know so far.
Investor records for Apple analyst Jeff Pu said the air will have a titanium frame. If his report is accurate, a lightweight smartphone would be the only entry in the iPhone 17 lineup that uses that metal. The iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to be made of aluminum, which is a strange material that is lighter than titanium. Other speculation suggests that the air will use a mixture of aluminum and titanium, so the exact material will not be known until formally announced.
Each new roster includes a base model, but over the years, Apple has shaken the various phones it offers. There will most likely be iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. Apple is also committed to the concept of size importance and has been building an iPhone Pro Max option with a larger screen and longer battery life. The 17 roster will almost certainly have one.
The iPhone 17 Air seems to be able to replace the potential iPhone 17 Plus. Since the iPhone 16e was only introduced at a surprisingly high price in February, it seems unlikely that there will be a new addition to the lower end of the spectrum, which were formerly known as SE.
At least, it sounds like the iPhone 17 Air won’t take away the charging port, but it only relies on wireless connections. Bloomberg It says Apple has investigated the iPhone 17 air without a port, but the company (luckily) changed plans. He also said the rumored phone will have a 6.6-inch screen and include dynamic islands and camera control buttons. Ultimately, the price is rumored to be $900, which may be higher than the standard iPhone 17, but less than the Pro one.
We also learn about reliable observations of the color range of new smartphones. The iPhone 17 will be available in black, white, steel grey, green, purple and light blue. The iPhone 17 air will be reportedly available in four color options: black, white, light blue and light gold. While the air color is low saturation, the visual effects of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will be bold. Options for the Pro model are expected to be black, white, gray, dark blue and orange.
What is iOS 26 like?
Apple overturned its numbering convention with WWDC 2025 and matched the name of each new operating system to the year it was released. So when the next wave of iPhones hits, they will run on iOS 26.
In terms of design, the smartphone operating system introduced during the large developer presentation adopted a controversial approach called liquid glass. In subsequent beta tests on iOS 26, Apple has been the amount of transparency effect, but it still has a glass-like visual effect.
This feature list includes both large and small updates. On the more impactful side, the phone and photo apps have been redesigned. Using AI features will have several features, such as live streaming translation capabilities coming to phone calls, faceTime and messages. Apple is also currently testing sensitive content warnings for children’s accounts, which will be if nude is detected in device machine learning tools. The company is also launching Visual Intelligence, which will use AI to search for elements in images.
