Zheng Qinwen Pauses at her comeback.

The Olympic gold medal champion withdraws from the Wuhan Open today.

Zheng was eliminated by the situation in nearly two months and missed the U.S. Open due to elbow surgery, making a comeback in Beijing but was forced to retire in the second round against Linda Noskova on Sunday.

“I’m here to evaluate the recovery level of the elbow,” Zheng said after her retirement in Beijing. “I said this before the game. I didn’t play at 100%.

“I’m in pain. But the pain should be manageable. As long as it’s not controlled, it’s the first time in my life to have such a surgery. I’m not too aggressive in this context. I have to think about a longer career.”

Zheng will be replaced at the Wuhan Open of Spain’s Jessica Bouzas Maniero. The main draw will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at 4 pm local time.
