European Foreign Minister condemns “threat” to head of the IAEA
Foreign ministers in France, Germany and the United Kingdom condemned Iranian newspapers for calling for the implementation of the United Nations Atomic Observer.
In a joint statement issued on Monday, ministers assured that the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi received full support in the performance of his duties.
They also called on Iranian authorities to avoid taking steps to end the country’s cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.
“We urge Iran to immediately restore full cooperation in accordance with its legally binding obligations and take all necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of IAEA personnel,” the statement said.
In Iran, a narrative has been circulating that the IAEA report sparked the recent Israeli air strikes and the subsequent 12-day war.
Grossi is increasingly portrayed as an opponent in the Iranian media, further escalating tensions between Tehran and the international community.
The condemnation was a response to an article published by Iran’s Daily Kayhan, widely seen as a tough national propaganda outlet, openly calling for Grossi’s arrest and execution.
This article has sparked sharp criticism from the Western capital.
