Three car burglary suspects died in Orange County police pursuit crash; two others were injured

A car chase involving an Orange County car theft occurred Wednesday morning when the vehicle rolled over on Highway 5, killing three insiders and injuring two other passengers.

According to authorities, people in the vehicle are believed to be involved in a vehicle burglary in Anaheim and were driving a black sedan at the time of the crash.

Anaheim police received a call for suspicious activity near Euclid Street and La Palma Street, reportedly people were reportedly breaking into vehicles and taking items, Sgt. Matt Sutter and Anaheim police said. When officers arrived, they saw a black sedan believed to have been involved in the theft. The officer tried to unplug the vehicle, but the driver did not stop.

The pursuit began around 2:50 a.m. and the crash reportedly occurred shortly before 3 a.m. on Northbound Highway 5 near Brookster Street. During a brief pursuit, the officer saw several items thrown from the vehicle.

Authorities say it is not clear why the driver has lost control. There are no other vehicles.

Sartre said the two passengers who survived the crash were in serious and stable states, respectively.

During the morning commute, traffic was affected for hours and the California Highway Patrol will lead to an investigation into the fatal crash.
