Monsoon Meeting 2025: Parliament begins from July 21 to August 12

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Wednesday that the parliamentary monsoon meeting will begin on July 21 and end on August 12.

Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will be called at 11 a.m. on the opening day, the beginning of the first parliamentary meeting in three months.

The meeting is expected to be politically accused, especially in the context of the raising demands for the special session of the opposition.

Sixteen opposition parties wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, urging an immediate meeting to discuss the recent Pahargam terrorist attacks and retaliatory actions of Sindoor – a cross-border military operation against nine terrorist camps occupied by Pakistan and Pakistan, and the occupation of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK).

In response, the government has now formalized a schedule for the monsoon meeting and asserted that all issues, including those raised by the opposition, can be resolved during the scheduled seating period.

The budget meeting earlier this year took place two phases from January 31 to April 4 and saw the passage of several key legislation, including the WAQF Amendment Act, which aims to focus on improving the management of WAQF real estate, empowering stakeholders related to the management of WAQF, thereby increasing the efficiency of investigations, registration and case distribution processing and WAQF Properties.

Although the core purpose remains to manage WAQF attributes, the goal is to implement modern and scientific approaches to better governance. The Mousalman WAKF Act of 1923 was also abolished.

In addition to the WAQF amendment, the government has passed the “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University Act of 2025 to establish the “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University to provide education, training and capacity building in the fields of cooperation and conduct research and development activities in related fields.

The Immigration and Foreign Affairs Act (2025) has also been passed to simplify the law to require a passport or other travel document to involve India and those who withdraw from India and matters related to foreigners, including visa and registration requirements.
