Sebastian Korda has suffered quite a bit of damage recently, but he rebounded clinically at the Lynk & Co Hangzhou Open on Friday.
The 25-year-old American, forced to retire from the first round of the U.S. Open last month, beat Adam Walton 7-5, 6-3 in the China ATP 250 event. Corda dropped the game in the first game but sent four games from 3-5 in the first round with a 3-5 record and shot 20 A’s throughout the 87-minute first round clash.

“It’s a tough game. He started great…I didn’t get off to the ground, but I kept my composure as much as possible,” Corda said. “I think my service is very good and it’s much easier when you serve well, so I’m very happy with the show today.”
Korda was also eliminated for two and a half months after Roland Garros because of his return at Winston-Salem, who withdrew him before the semifinals. Korda next met the Chinese wildcard Wu Yibing in the second round of his Hangzhou debut.
According to Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, Korda is now ranked 79th with a record of 15-11 after becoming the 22 players in the PIF ATP rankings. He reached the Adelaide final in January and reached the quarterfinals at the ATP Masters in Miami before an injury hindered his progress.
Australian qualifiers Rinky Hijikata also improved on Friday, second only to the nine tours this season after a tough 7-6 (2), 6-4 win over fifth-seeded Camilo Ugo Carabelli. Hijikata converted 13 of 17 breakout points for a second round meeting with Tomas Martin Etcheverry, which will be their first Lexus ATP Head2head Clash.
