Creator Jennie Snyder Urman Exclusively tell US Weekly It's just the beginning, teasing: “Season 1 finale sets everything. In Season 2, you'll get answers that we've always had a lot of hope.”
Urman realized that after the first season was full of twists and turns, expectations were high.
“When the first episode aired, we were filming the bubble of episode 17 was both difficult and fun. We were already on the way, and now we were airing, so we were talking to the audience, and I tried to realize it, but it wasn't seen so we were still telling the story,” she explained. “But I always thought that if there was a problem – they found a problem – I could solve this problem more and more. I wanted the story as good as possible and as silent as possible.”
According to Ulman, the audience shouldn't be too “comfortable”, adding: “It allows formula changes and it's about being your own stock. We have a lot of interesting structural content next year, and I think that will surprise the audience in a really interesting way because the finals put us in real positions on many different storylines.”
Until Season 2, keep scrolling for answers to the biggest questions:
Why are there no big hints about Julian's betrayal?

Jason Ritter is “Julian Markston”.
CBS“The blink is always something Matty knows she can keep the audience moving forward. us. “Matty didn't know she had the file she really wanted. She thought it was Olympia until a little bit, and then she thought it was Julian. So because she didn't lead – we found it with her in real time – there was no such way to predict because we found Matty.”
The writer's room still wants to make sure all the plot sequences are brought together.
“We make sure it will be in line. But, the biggest storytelling challenge – and the fun challenge – we have a very, very smart character. Everyone is, but especially Olympia and Marty. So we have to work very hard to work hard to pull things in them or others,” Ulman noted. “It's not that they'll see all the subtle things, and I think that makes it fun. But, during the day, there's nothing to hang out, which suggests it's going to be Julian or Marty will catch it.”
Is it always a plan to let Olympia know about Marty’s true identity?

“I always knew I wanted Olympia to catch her, but I wanted us to change our perspective to show Olympia's point of view. I hope Olympia will surprise the audience and Matty, just as Matty surprised us in the first episode,” Ulman said. “It's always been the plan. When will we reveal Marty for a while in Olympia. It's about Episode 13 or Episode 14. All the ways to load the ending makes it feel like we're in the right order.”
What changes are there – or aren't included in the final version?

As the season progresses, Matlock has undergone a “small change”.
“We were very close to this document at the start of the season, which is about 30 or 40 pages and it does tell the story through the plot. So we put the material very close, but we flip it. us. “Olympia is going to discover Marty’s secret earlier. CBS is really great. I said, ‘In the ending, I have more stories than an episode.’ They let the creativity decide that.
She added: “There are definitely a lot of roads and we thought maybe we might not have come down. But we really stick to what we are drawing very closely.”
Why was Julian the final choice?

Throughout the season, all signs point to Olympia and Senior (Beau Bridges)Julian proved to be the one who was at fault.
“He's important to the people who are crucial to Matty, and it's Olympia. Olympia is important to Marty and Julian to her. It's going to be in the toughest dilemma. If it's older, it's easier because everyone will be like, because everyone will be like, 'Okay, let him step in and blow it up.'' He's definitely burning enough people and building enough enemies,'” the screenwriter shared. “But Julian wasn't that character. He did horrible things, did great things, had life, history and shared parenting. It really made him a complicated character. I just liked how Jason Ritter was in that scene when he begged for Olympia. He explained that he made a mistake that prevented him from honestly playing his attitude throughout his life.
Urman didn’t want a good choice, he said: “There are only bad choices, and everyone is compelling in every way. That’s what makes the dilemma really difficult and the drama really rich and strong. It allows us to enter the next season with so many levels and different competitive agendas and tensions. It’s just an exciting season two.”
Does this mean that Julian will be explored more?

“He did this horrible thing, he hid secrets. He also tried to redeem himself, and he was fighting for his life,” Ulman shared. “It just made him play on many different levels and allowed the interaction with Matty to load in different ways. It allowed Olympia's interaction to load in different ways. We have more interactions now because he has been so specifically integrated into that major plot. We can see more of him, and I think it makes everyone happy.”
The one who showed up at Alfi's father in the Marty family?

in short? Yes.
“Taking Alfie's father back will change and destabilize the family life. In this place, everything is in a firm place – suddenly, there is another element beyond Marty's control, which is not where she likes.” “She is uncomfortable when they can't control it. They have to do DNA tests to see if this guy is a father. Suddenly they have to include him in things. When did he know Ellie? What is his addictive state? Do they want to be involved?”
She continued: “This brings all this to the forefront. It will surely bring Ellie back to the story in a real way. You'll surely see more flashbacks that study some of the joys of Ellie and her mother and her relationship, not just the pain.”
Is Hot Billy Summer no longer an option?

Urman mocks Claudia's pregnancy doesn't mean Billy us“You're asking the question we asked in the writer's room. But I can't give it up because it's all premiering in Season 2.”
Where is Sarah going in career high school?

“Maybe it's been twists and turns, but she showed up in court. She did. It's amazing. She felt celebrated and seen, it was a moment of victory and we understand it emotionally,” Urman detailed. “And then, of course we knew there would be some drama. But I wanted to live in Sarah and feel like I was in a good position and celebrated that before the carpet was pulled from under her.”
Can Olympia and Marty become friends again?

Urman calls the core friendship “an epic love story”, “We are shaping it as if it’s an epic love story throughout the course of the season. Depending on how Olympia plays with the document, it controls how their relationship develops. You guys are really watching two people fall in love now, and it’s really complicated now. That’s where we lose them in the ending.
What guest stars can pop up in Season 2?

“I've got some people who have contacted me and some have reached out. I don't want to say who it is,” Ulman laughed. “But some people reached out and said, ‘I want to join Matlock, which is absolutely exciting.’ I know they want to act with Kathy Bates.
