Board residents are frustrated by the chaos left by fiber optic cable companies
Ohio Board of Directors (WKBN) – A group of people from a board told township trustees Monday that more needs to be done after installing new fiber optic cables to keep the company responsible for the cleanup.
Lawyer and resident near Park Harbor John Shultz solved the problem he and his neighbors had with the company that installed fiber optic cables nearby, where a ditch sat on a parked cul-de-sac surrounded by utility lines and a pile of dirt next to it.
“There is a driveway that almost completely disappeared at the bottom of the street, or where it merged on the street. They’ve hit the street lights. They’ve made holes,” Schultz said.
Board administrator Jason Loree said townships could hardly do when it comes to fiber installations because they are regulated by the Federal Communications Commission.
“They had some problems in Canfield. They had some problems in Poland,” Lore said. “They could basically come here and work with the right of way and we really had no way to stop them.”
But the town has hired lawyers to determine if it is possible to ask the installation company to issue a margin before allowing the job.
“To make sure they get into a community, they stayed it in a way they found out, and if not, we could pull the bond.”
“I do like Bond’s advice. I think it’s necessary,” Schultz said.
Another complaint was that the second crew member followed the installer to fix the loss of the landscaping environment, rather than fixing it as they proceeded. In addition, residents should be able to know when the crew will come, Lorey said.
“Now they should put it back in the way they found it. It doesn’t always happen,” Lore said. “And we also want to make sure that when they enter your neighbors, they should post door hangers out of courtesy.”
“We’re going to force you to be our spokesperson and say, ‘Hey, not only at Park Harbor, but anywhere near Glenwood Avenue near Market Street – these communities shouldn’t get this treatment.”
